Marinelli’s defense played great, Martz’ offense offensive in 9-6 loss

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 8:03 pm

Rod Marinelli brought his Cover 2 defense with him from Tampa Bay and they looked awesome on Sunday holding the high-powered Seahawks to 9 points.  Rookie OLB Ernie Sims racked up 10 tackles as did safety Terrence Holt.  DT Shaun Rogers had 2 sacks.  DE James Hall also had 2 sacks.  The Seahawks only rushed for 91 yards and only averaged 3.5 yards per carry.  The Seahawks completed 83.3% of their passes for 173 net yards in the air.

The Lions looked pitiful on offense.  Jon Kitna completed 21 of 37 passes (56.8%) for 229 yards.  RB Kevin Jones had a rough day, carrying the ball 14 times for 35 yards (2.5 ypc) and caught 5 passes for 45 yards.  WR Mike Furrey caught 5 passes for 55 yards (11.0 avg).  Roy Williams caught 3 passes for 36 yards.

Lions Going to the Playoffs…2006

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by Cave Man on Sunday 10 September 2006 at 6:01 am

Having been a Lions fan my entire 47 years, I can say without hesitation that the only way the Lions make the playoffs this is year is if they all buy tickets. Matt Millen was a hell of a football player. He is not an operations man. The Ford family should sell the team to a pizza mogul. Then, and only then will the Lions have a prayer.  Shifting gears….For all of the Joey Harrington bashers out there… A quaterback in the NFL cannot complete passes if he is running for his life every time he drops back to pass. I remember  a long time ago there was a skill the offense had to have….BLOCKING!!! Unless you are Michael Vick, you are dead meat without blocking, and even he has paid the price for having to scramble. So I say GO Lions! Make me a liar…I dare you…Matt Millen….give it up. Ford family….Sell!!! I will always cheer for the Lions good times and bad….Cave Man Camp Dublin, Iraq

Lions vs. Seahawks

The Seahawks will probably just play basic football and give the Lions all kinds of trouble.  I don’t see the Lions line-backers and D-Line having much chance of stopping running back Shaun Alexander from having a good game.  When Alexander is running well, Matt Hasselbeck has an easy time throwing the ball downfield.  WR Darrell Jackson and TE Ituli Mili are banged up, but Nate Burleson and Bobby Engram will more than likely step up and produce decent numbers.

The Lions will probably try to throw the ball all over the place with Mike Martz calling the plays.  The problem with doing that is that Jon Kitna is a tad turnover-prone.  The Lions will attack with Kitna throwing to Roy Williams alot, but the Seahawks have a strong secondary, so Kitna will have to be careful.  Martz might have some thoughts about using RB Kevin Jones a little more than most people think, to balance out the offense.

On paper, the Seahawks should dominate this game…….but games aren’t played on paper.

Rod Marinelli

Coach Marinelli is an old-school tough guy kind of coach.  Marinelli has never been a head coach, but he was a defensive line/assitant head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs from 1996-2005.  I think Marinelli will do a good job, as he brings with him Tampa’s famous cover-2 defense.
