Lions destroyed by Dolphins 27-10

Things looked good for the Lions early in the game when they took the ball on their first possession and drove straight down the field for a TD.  It all went sour from that point on, as Joey Harrington chewed up the Lions defense and spit them out on Ford Field.

Jon Kitna completed 22 of 40 passes for 252 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, but he was under siege all day as the Dolphins sacked him 8 times.  Arlen Harris never got anything going with 15 yards rushing on 8 carries (1.9 ypc).  Harris also caught 2 passes for 22 yards.  Roy Williams caught 6 passes for 126 yards.  Mike Furrey added 7 receptions for 67 yards.  TE Dan Campbell caught 2 passes for 6 yards and a TD.

Daniel Bullocks (11 tackles, forced fumble) and Ernie Sims (11 tackles, 1/2 sack) led the way on defense.  The Lions couldn’t stop the Dolphins from running the ball as the Fins ran the ball 35 times for 186 yards (5.3 ypc).  The Fins completed 19 of 29 passes for 209 net yards passing yesterday.

This loss had to really hurt.  Joey Harrington ruined everyone’s Thanksgiving in Detroit, which he now has done every year he’s been in the NFL.

Detroit Lions vs. Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have been on a roll since their bye week as they have won all three games by a combined score of 68-43.  The Lions have lost two games in a row.

Look for the Dolphins to run the ball alot in the early stages of this football game.  Ronnie Brown (712 yards rushing) should find alot of running room against a Lions defense that is allowing 125.5 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry.  The Dolphins won’t be able to resist letting Joey Harrington try to stick it to his old team.  The Lions allow 216.7 net yards passing and have allowed opposing QBs to run up a rating of 100.6 on the season.  Look for Harrington to spread the ball around to Chris Chambers, Randy McMichael, Wes Welker and Marty Booker.

The Lions could be without Kevin Jones, and if he doesn’t play look for the Lions to throw the ball almost every down because Arlen Harris is not much of a running threat.  The Dolphins have a very rugged run defense anyways (101.2 yards per game, 3.4 ypc) so the Lions wouldn’t have had much success on the ground anyhow.  Look for Jon Kitna (2,624 yards passing) to throw the ball short to Mike Furrey (49 rec, 583 yards) and long to Roy Williams (54 rec, 867 yards).  Kitna could have success as long as the O-Line keeps Jason Taylor (9 sacks) away from him.

This should be a good football game, but I have to side with the Dolphins here as Joey Harrington will get the last laugh on Detroit.

Lions fall on the road to Cards 17-10

The Lions just couldn’t do enough to beat the Cardinals in Arizona yesterday.  Jon Kitna completed 23 of 38 passes for 248 yards and an INT.  Kevin Jones left the game early with an injury and never returned.  Arlen Harris took over and carried the ball 10 times for 40 yards (4.0 ypc) and a TD.  Aveion Cason carried the ball 4 times for 20 yards.  Mike Furrey led the way for the Lions in receiving with 6 catches for 67 yards.  Roy Williams caught 5 passes for 67 yards.  Corey Bradford pitched in and caught 3 passes for 54 yards.

The defense didn’t really do much for the Lions.  The Cardinals ran the ball 30 times for 105 yards (3.5 ypc).  The Cards completed 19 of 29 passes for 233 net yards passing.

The Lions are looking really bad at 2-8 on the season.

Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Lions are coming off of a tough loss against the 49ers at home.  The Cardinals have lost 8 games in a row, the last three of which the Cardinals have been out-scored 80-33!

Look for the Lions to attack the Cardinals through the air.  Jon Kitna (2,376 yards passing) should have no trouble having success against a Cardinals defense that allows 229.2 net yards passing per game.  The Cards really have no pass rush, so the Lions should have time to get the ball deep to Roy Williams (49 rec, 800 yards) and short to Mike Furrey (43 rec, 516 yards).  The Lions won’t forget to unleash Kevin Jones (628 yards rushing, 367 yards rec.) against the Cards safeties and linebackers.  The Cards also have problems stopping the run, as they allow 124.6 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry.

The Cardinals would be smart to run the football against the Lions.  The Lions allow 127.8 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry, so Edgerrin James (584 yards rushing) could have a big game and help keep the Lions offense off the field.  That being said, the Cardinals will let Matt Leinart (1,115 yards passing) attack the Lions defense (214.9 net yards allowed passing per game) with his great WRs.  Anquan Boldin (661 yards rec.) and Larry Fitzgerald (416 yards rec) could be in line for huge games against the Lions.

This should be a fun game to watch with alot of scoring.  Whichever QB protects the ball better will win this football game.

Lions hit rock bottom in 19-13 home loss to Niners

The Lions offensive players acted like they dipped their hands in Crisco before the game.  Jon Kitna completed 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  Kitna also carried the ball 4 times for 27 yards and lost a fumble.  Kevin Jones carried the ball 13 times for 44 yards (3.4 ypc) and caught 9 passes for 71 yards, but he also lost a fumble.  Roy Williams caught 5 passes for 81 yards, but he also lost a fumble.  TE Dan Campbell caught 2 passes for 32 yards and a TD.

The safeties for the Lions were making alot of tackles and that’s usually bad news for a defense.  Kenoy Kennedy (14 tackles) and Terrence Holt (10 tackles) led the way for the Lions.  DE Corey Redding had a good game with 2 sacks.  The Niners ran the ball 44 times for 198 yards (4.5 ypc).  The Niners completed 14 of 21 passes for 117 net yards passing.

The Lions are pitiful….it’s official.
