Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears
The Bears will probably try to run the ball alot more than usual to keep the Lions offense on the sideline. Look for Thomas Jones (1,121 yards rushing) and Cedric Benson (489 yards rushing) to split alot of carries between them against a Lions defense that is allowing 131.1 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry. Rex Grossman should have another productive game throwing the ball because the Lions don’t have much of a pass rush, so Grossman should have alot of time to survey the field. Look for him to spread the ball around to Mushin Muhammad, Bernard Berrian and Desmond Clark.
The Lions will probably just try to air it out against the Bears. It seemed to work for the Bucs last week, so Coach Martz will be more than happy to oblige. Jon Kitna (3,619 yards passing) needs to protect the football better (21 INTs) to have any chance of keeping this game close. The offensive line has allowed 55 sacks so far this season so the blocking must improve up front to give Kitna time to throw the ball downfield to Roy Williams (70 rec, 1,127 yards) and Mike Furrey (77 rec, 877 yards). The Lions will probably not run much even if they have a lead because Arlen Harris just isn’t that good of a running back.
The Bears blasted the Lions 34-7 in the first meeting. Look for the game to be a tad closer than that, but the Bears should win this game with relative ease.
