The Lions didn’t get much production from their running back corps last season.  Kevin Jones played pretty decent but he missed the lastfour games of last season.  Jones played in 12 games last season and he carried the ball 181 times for 689 yards (3.8 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He also caught 61 passes for 520 yards (8.5 avg) with 2 TD runs.  For his career, Jones has played in 40 games (39 starts) and has carried the ball 608 times for 2,486 yards (4.1 ypc) with 16 TD runs.  He also has caught 109 passes for 809 yards (7.4 avg) with 3 TD catches.

Arlen Harris started in place of Jones when he was injured, but he didn’t impress anyone.  He played in 10 games (3 starts) last season and he carried the ball 49 times for 158 yards (3.2 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 18 passes for 132 yards (7.3 avg).  For his career, Harris has played in 56 games (6 starts) and he has carried the ball 167 times for 497 yards (3.0 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He also has caught 41 passes for 312 yards (7.6 avg).

Aveion Cason only played in 6 games (2 starts) this season and he carried the ball 24 times for 94 yards (3.9 ypc).  He also caught 5 passes for 26 yards (5.2 avg).  For his career, Cason has played in 37 games (5 starts) and he carried the ball 111 times for 517 yards (4.7 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also caught 46 passes for 499 yards (10.8 avg) with 2 TD catches.

Brian Calhoun’s rookie season was cut short because of injury.  Calhoun only played in 7 games and carried the ball 7 times for 19 yards (2.7 ypc).  He also caught 2 passes for 20 yards.

Lamar Gordon made a brief appearance for the Lions and carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards.  For his career, Gordon has played in 41 games (15 starts) and he’s carried the ball 226 times for 774 yards (3.4 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He also has caught 62 passes for 490 yards (7.9 avg) with 2 TD grabs.

Shawn Bryson also had his season cut short by injury.  Bryson only played in 6 games and he carried the ball only 2 times for 1 yard.  He also caught 8 passes for 98 yards (12.3 avg) with 1 TD catch.  For his career, Bryson has played in 91 games (27 starts) and he’s carried the ball 528 times for 2,144 yards (4.1 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He also has caught 185 passes for 1,383 yards (7.5 avg) with 3 TD grabs.

Rod Marinelli must have really wanted to be a NFL coach real bad to take the Detroit Lions job.  You already start behind the 8 ball when Matt Millen is the one calling the shots in the draft and free agency.  Poor Marinelli didn’t have a chance.  The offense was exciting at times but the defense was awful all season long.  Sure, their were injuries on that side of the ball but there wasn’t that much talent on the defense even when everyone was healthy.  I think the Lions were depending on Marinelli (a long time defensive co-ordinator) to make something out of nothing.  The future looks gloomy for Marinelli but it’s not all his fault.  The Lions were 3-13 (18.8%) in his rookie season.

Jon Kitna put up alot of numbers this season….both good and bad.  Kitna started all 16 games for the Lions and he completed 372 of 596 passes (62.4%) for 4,208 yards with 21 TD passes and 22 interceptions (79.9 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball 34 times for 156 yards (4.6 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  For his career, Kitna has played in 108 games (95 starts) and has completed 2,039 of 3,433 passes (59.4%) for 22,467 yards with 129 TD passes and 126 interceptions (76.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the football 248 times for 714 yards (2.9 ypc) with 10 TD runs.

Josh McCown did not take a snap this season.  For his career, he has completed 498 of 862 passes (57.8%) for 5.431 yards with 25 TD passes and 29 interceptions (72.1 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 94 times for 429 yards (4.6 ypc) with 3 TD runs.
