Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks preview

Blogged under Big Lions News,Bloglockers,If I Were a Betting Man,This Week's Matchup Report by Andrew on Friday 6 November 2009 at 8:24 pm

The Detroit Lions (1-6) are heading out west to take on the Seattle Seahawks (2-5).  The Seahawks have lost two in a row and have not been playing very well this year.  This could be a good opportunity for the Lions to get their second win of the year, but it will be difficult.  Their quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has a solid game last week against the Cowboys, throwing two touchdowns and 249 yards on 22-39 attempts.  The Lions need to do a better job at stopping the passing game, because the 251 yards per game is way too much.  Julius Jones will be the main running back the Lions will need to key in on.  They are giving up 117 rushing yards per game though, so Jones may have himself a big day.

The Lions offense needs to get more out of Mathew Stafford and the passing game.  Stafford returned from a knee injury last week, but didn’t play very well.  He went 14-33 for only 168 yards and threw an interception.  If Stafford has another game like that the Lions will not have a chance.  Things are just not improving enough for the Lions lately, so I think the Seahawks will win somewhat easily.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Seattle Seahawks 30, Detroit Lions 17

The Detroit Lions sign CB Jason David

Blogged under Big Lions News,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Thursday 5 November 2009 at 9:25 pm

The Lions have signed 27-year old CB Jason David.  David played in 14 games for the Saints last season and he made 23 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, defensed 10 passes and he had 5 interceptions.  He has now played in 75 games in his NFL career and he has made 221 tackles, defensed 55 passes, he has forced 3 fumbles and he has intercepted 16 passes (one he has returned for a TD).  Despite good looking numbers Jason David got burnt to a crisp quite a lot in New Orleans and that’s why he’s not there anymore.  He should fit right in with the Lions secondary but he won’t improve it.

UPDATE:  David has been waived to make room on the roster for CB Jack Williams who was claimed off waivers from the Broncos.  David didn’t even get to play in a game for the Lions before getting cut.

St. Louis Rams 17, Detroit Lions 10

The Lions laid an egg yesterday at home as they allowed the Rams to break their 17-game losing streak.  Matt Stafford completed 14 of 33 passes for 168 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 interception.  Stafford was the victim of a lot of dropped passes as the Lions missed Calvin Johnson big time.  Kevin Smith was so-so again yesterday carrying the ball 16 times for 45 yards (2.8 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 49 yards (12.3 avg).  Maurice Morris had a solid game for the Lions yesterday as he carried the ball 14 times for 63 yards (4.5 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 19 yards.  The Lions finished up with 289 yards on offense (127 rushing, 162 passing) in this game.

Ernie Sims led a sub-par effort of the defense yesterday with 7 tackles.  The Rams rolled up 362 total yards on offense (150 rushing, 212 passing) in this game.  The Lions are now 1-6 on the year.
