Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Detroit Lions 7
The Lions didn’t look too good Saturday night in Pittsburgh. Matt Stafford wasn’t that bad as he completed 8 of 11 passes for 61 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT. Shaun Hill was kind of effective too as he completed 8 of 10 passes for 77 yards. Drew Stanton finished up the game at QB and he completed 7 of 11 passes for 70 yards. 1st round pick Jahvid Best looked solid in his first taste of the NFL as he carried the ball 6 times for 29 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 9 yards. Aaron Brown pitched in with 19 yards rushing on 5 carries (3.8 ypc) and 22 yards receiving on 2 catches (11.0 avg). Calvin Johnson caught 2 passes for only 10 yards but one of his grabs went for a TD. The Lions spread the ball around to 16 different receivers but none of them caught more than 2 passes or had more than 31 yards receiving on Saturday night.
Defensively the Lions were solid against the run but not so good against the pass in this game. LB Ashlee Palmer led the way for the Lions in this game with 5 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit. LB Vinny Ciurciu (5 tackles), CB Eric King (5 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and DE Willie Young (5 tackles) also had decent games for the Lions against the Steelers. The Steelers finished up with 117 yards rushing (3.3 ypc) and 169 yards passing in this contest.
