The Lions have signed 28-year old safety Erik Coleman.  Coleman played in 12 games for the Falcons last season and he had 20 tackles.  Coleman has now played in 107 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 604 tackles, 35 passes defensed, 2 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 10 interceptions.  The Lions need all of the help that they can get in the secondary so this is a nice signing for them.

The Lions have released 28-year old cornerback Eric King.  King played in 3 games for the Lions last season in which he had 9 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  King played in 7 games in parts of two years for the Lions and he had 16 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  The Lions won’t miss King too much as they will continue to look to rebuild the secondary this off-season.

Ndamukong Suh wins the A.P. Defensive Rookie of the Year Award

24-year old DT Ndamukong Suh has won the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and he deserved it.  He played in all 16 games for the Lions last season in which he had 66 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, 3 passes defensed, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble and a fumble recovery that he returned for a TD!  He also missed an extra point attempt when the Lions’ kicker was injured.  Suh is as strong as an ox and he’s freakishly fast for a player his size.  That combination will serve both Suh and the Lions’ defense well over his career in Motown.
