The Detroit Lions sign center Andy McCollum

The Lions have signed 38-year old center Andy McCollum to provide depth on the offensive line.  McCollum is 6′4″ 300 pounds and he still is a skilled player.  He played in 15 games (10 starts) for the Rams last season.  McCollum has a ton of experience to bring to the Lions as he has played 14 seasons in the NFL covering 187 games in which he has played in (155 starts).  This was a decent move for the Lions.

The Detroit Lions bring back running back Artose Pinner

The Lions have signed running back Artose Pinner to a 1-year contract.  The 30-year old Pinner played his first three seasons in the NFL for the Lions but things are a little bit different now.  Pinner played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Vikings last season and he carried the ball 5 times for 46 yards (9.2 ypc).  Pinner has now played in 47 games in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 250 times for 858 yards (3.4 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  He has also caught 39 passes for 308 yards (7.9 avg).  Pinner will likely be nothing more than a backup for the Lions this season.

The Detroit Lions sign linebacker Alfred Fincher

The Lions have signed linebacker Alfred Fincher.  Fincher played in 7 games for the Saints last season and he made a whopping 3 tackles.  Fincher has now played in 24 games in his NFL career and he has made 20 tackles.  Fincher will likely just provide depth at linebacker and on special teams.

The Detroit Lions sign linebacker Gilbert Gardner

The Lions have signed linebacker Gilbert Gardner.  Gardner played in 13 games for the Titans last season and he made only 11 tackles.  Gardner has now played in 50 games in his NFL career and he has made 106 tackles, defensed 7 passes, has 1 sack and he has intercepted 1 pass.  Gardner will likely be a back up and a special teams player for the Lions in 2008.

The Detroit Lions sign safety Kalvin Pearson

The Lions have signed safety Kalvin Pearson.  He played in 16 games for the Bucs last season and he made 23 tackles.  Pearson has now played in 51 games in his NFL career and he has made 95 tackles, defensed 3 passes and forced a fumble.  Pearson will likely serve as the backup safety and a special teams player.
