The Lions were up 12-7  in the 3rd quarter with 11:24 left in the game but that’s when it started to go to pot.  Bryan McCann of the Cowboys returned a punt 97 yards for a TD just two minutes later and the Cowboys never gave up the lead again.  Shaun Hill had a solid game for the Lions as he completed 32 of 47 passes for 289 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  Maurice Morris had to carry the load for the Lions in the running game with 10 carries for 31 yards (3.1 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 40 yards (10.0 avg).  Nate Burleson (7 rec, 97 yards, TD), Calvin Johnson (6 rec, 46 yards, TD) and Brandon Pettigrew (8 rec, 75 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Lions in this game.  The Lions finished up with 75 yards rushing on 20 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 32 of 47 passes for 263 yards.

The Lions got a safety in this game and they didn’t give up a lot of yards but they still gave up quite a few points.  In their defense, the Cowboys had short fields to work with which resulted in 14 of the points plus the special teams gave up a TD.  The Cowboys finished up with 134 yards rushing on 30 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 24 passes for 131 yards.  The Lions are now 2-8 on the season.

New York Jets 23, Detroit Lions 20 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by admin on Monday 8 November 2010 at 11:20 am

The play that hurt the Lions the most in this game was when placekicker Jason Hanson was injured in the third quarter.  That’s because rookie DT Ndamukong Suh replaced Hanson and he hit an upright on an extra point.  If the Lions would have gotten that extra point the Jets wouldn’t have been able to kick a field goal to send the game into O.T. on their last possession.  Matthew Stafford was solid in this game for the Lions as he completed 20 of 36 passes for 240 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 11 yards (2.8 ypc) with a TD run.  But he left the game late in the 4th quarter as he re-injured his right shoulder.  Drew Stanton replaced him and he threw one incomplete pass and he carried the ball 1 time for 6 yards.  Jahvid Best led the way on the ground for the Lions in this game with 48 yards rushing on 16 carries (3.0 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 40 yards (8.0 avg).  Nate Burleson had a breakout game for the Lions yesterday with 7 grabs for 113 yards (16.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.  TE Brandon Pettigrew pitched in with 3 grabs for 18 yards (6.0 avg) with a TD grab.  The Lions finished up with 78 yards rushing on 28 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 37 passes for 228 yards.

The defense just couldn’t make the big play when they needed it as the Jets scored 10 points in the last 2:46 to send this game into O.T.  LBs DeAndre Levy (10 tackles) and Julian Peterson (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed) led the way for the Lions on D yesterday.  Safety Louis Delmas (7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) and CB Alphonso Smith (6 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception) also pitched in for the Lions on D yesterday.  The Jets finished up with 110 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 39 passes for 327 yards.  The Lions are now 2-6 on the season.

The Lions scored the last 17 points of this game last in the 4th quarter in a span of 1:36 seconds to prevail at home.  Matthew Stafford was very solid in his first game back since the season opener for the Lions as he completed 26 of 45 passes for 212 yards with 4 TD passes and 1 INT.  Kevin Smith led the way for the Lions on the ground in this game with 51 yards rushing on 12 carries (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 16 yards (8.0 avg).  Jahvid Best pitched in with 48 yards rushing on 12 carries (4.0 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 31 yards (6.2 avg) in this game.  Calvin Johnson was outstanding for the Lions yesterday as he caught 9 passes for 101 yards (11.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs in this game.  Nate Burleson (7 rec, 47 yards) and Brandon Pettigrew (2 rec, 8 yards, TD) also helped out the Lions in the passing game yesterday.  The Lions finished up with 102 yards rushing on 25 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 45 passes for 202 yards as they had the ball for 32:10.

The Lions had a blip on special teams as Brandon Banks returned a kickoffs 95 yards for a TD in the 4th quarter to give the Redskins a short lived lead in this game.  But, the defense played their second best game of the year for the Lions which really aided them in this win.  The Lions sacked Redskins’ QBs seven times yesterday!  CB Jonathan Wade led the way for the Lions’ D yesterday with 7 tackles, 1 pass defensed and a QB hit.  DE Kyle VandenBosch was outstanding for the Lions yesterday as he was living in the Redskins’ backfield.  VandenBosch finished up with 6 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 4 QB hits yesterday.  Fellow DE Cliff Avril was also solid yesterday with 5 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits for the Lions.  Rookie DT Ndamukong Suh was outstanding too with 5 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits.  Suh also recovered a fumble late in the 4th quarter which he returned 17 yards for a TD to seal this win.  The Redskins finished up with 80 yards rushing on 19 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 37 passes for 195 yards.  The Lions are now 2-5 on the season after this solid victory.

The Lions showed some grit today as they fought the Giants right until the bitter end.  Shaun Hill was off to a good start today before a cheap shot took him out of the game.  Hill completed 9 of 15 passes for 91 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs before leaving the game.  Drew Stanton replaced him and he played pretty strongly despite having some ball security problems (he fumbled 3 times, losing 1 of them).  Stanton completed 19 of 34 passes for 222 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 30 yards (10.0 ypc) today.  Kevin Smith led the way for the Lions on the ground in this game with 17 yards rushing on 4 carries (4.3 ypc).  Jahvid Best had a rough time today as he carried the ball 12 times for 16 yards (1.3 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 31 yards (5.2 avg).  Calvin Johnson had a monster game today with 5 grabs for 146 yards (29.2 avg) with a 87-yard TD grab from Drew Stanton.  TE Brandon Pettigrew (7 rec, 61 yards) and Nate Burleson (6 rec, 50 yards, TD) also pitched in for the Lions in the passing game.  The Lions finished up with 64 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 28 of 49 passes for 302 yards.

It was party time in Motown today as the Lions scored on offense, defense and special teams in their massacre of the Rams!  Stefan Logan returned a kickoff 105 yards on one of the more amazing returns I have seen.  Shaun Hill was very efficient running the offense as he completed 21 of 32 passes for 227 yards with 3 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Drew Stanton finished up the game by completing his only pass attempt which was good for 11 yards.  Jahvid Best was busy today as he carried the ball 18 times for 67 yards (3.7 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 37 yards (9.3 avg).  Nate Burleson (4 rec, 56 yards), Calvin Johnson (4 rec, 54 yards) and Brandon Pettigrew (4 rec, 26 yards) each caught 1 TD apiece in this game for the Lions.  The Lions finished up with 89 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 34 passes for 233 yards.

The defense gave up some yards today but not many points for the Lions.  Linebacker Julian Peterson led the way for the Lions today with 11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 pass defensed.  CB Alphonso Smith finished up with 5 tackles, 1 pass defensed, 1 fumble recovery and a interception that he returned 42 yards for a TD.  DT Ndamukong Suh (3 tackles, 1 pass defensed, INT) and CB Jonathan Wade (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 fumble recovery) also had solid game for the Lions on D today.  The Rams finished up with 128 yards rushing on 28 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 45 passes for 213 yards.  The Lions are now 1-4 on the year.

The Lions almost pulled a monumental upset at Lambeau Field due to an almost perfect gameplan.  The Lions wanted to contol the clock by running the ball and throwing short passes and that they did.  Shaun Hill completed 34 of 54 passes for 331 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs (one of his INTs was returned 48 yards for a TD by Charles Woodson of the Packers).  Hill also carried the ball 4 times for 53 yards (13.3 ypc) yesterday.  Jahvid Best led the way on the ground for the Lions in this game with 12 carries for 50 yards (4.2 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 34 yards (6.8 avg).  WR Calvin Johnson (6 grabs, 86 yards, 2 TDs) and TEs Brandon Pettitgrew (8 grabs, 91 yards) & Tony Scheffler (6 rec, 63 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Lions yesterday.  The Lions finished up with 123 yards rushing on 21 carries (5.9 ypc) and they also completed 34 of 54 passes for 308 yards passing.  The Lions had possession of the ball for 37:37 of this game but it still wasn’t enough.

Safety Louis Delmas (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) and LB  Zack Follett (5 tackles) led the way for the Lions on D in this game.  CBs Alphonso Smith and Chris Houston pitched in with 1 INT apiece yesterday.  The Packers finished up with 92 yards rushing on 21 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 17 passes for 169 yards in this game.  The Lions also got good special teams play in this game as PR/KR Stefan Logan recovered two fumbles of Jordy Nelson’s.  Logan also returned 4 kickoffs for 98 yards (24.5 avg) and 1 punt for 15 yards.  The Lions are now 0-4 on the year.
