The Lions have placed running back Brian Calhoun on the Injured Reserve List with a knee injury meaning he will miss the remainder of the season.  Calhoun carried the ball 7 times for 35 yards (5.0 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 35 yards (7.0 avg).  Calhoun also returned 10 kickoffs for 221 yards (22.1 avg) this year.  Calhoun will be replaced by Aveion Cason who the Lions have re-signed.  Cason carried the football 24 times for 94 yards (3.9 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 26 yards (5.2 avg) for the Lions last season.  He also returned 4 kickoffs for 110 yards (27.5 avg).

The Lions have lost starting TE Dan Campbell for the rest of the season due to a serious elbow injury.  He only caught 1 pass for 1 yard this season.  Look for either recently signed Courtney Anderson, Casey FitzSimmons (1 rec, 10 yards) or Sean McHugh (5 rec, 72 yards) to step up at tight end for the rest of the season.  Still, the Lions don’t use that many sets that incorporate a tight end.

The Lions have lost starting safety Daniel Bullocks for the season with a torn ACL.  That is a shame for the Lions as he was playing well in the pre-season with 8 tackles plus he’s also one of the Lions’ best defenders on a weak overall defense.  Gerald Alexander (3 tackles) and Idrees Bashir (8 tackles) will duke it out the next two weeks to see who starts at safety in Bullocks’ spot.

The Lions have placed Alan Ricard on the Injured Reserve list with bad knees.  This leaves the competition for the starting fullback job down to two players…..Casey FitzSimmons vs. Sean McHugh who are both converted TEs.

The Lions have placed rookie quarterback Drew Stanton on the Injured Reserve list with a bad knee which will cause him to miss the remainder of the season.  The Lions don’t think that Stanton’s injury is that serious but they felt that he wasn’t ready to contribute much on the field this season so they are playing it safe.  J.T. O’Sullivan and Dan Orlovsky will likely both make the Lions final roster now, but they will still battle to see who is #2 behind Jon Kitna.
