William James has not been awful for the Detroit Lions this year

Blogged under Steppin Up, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 18 December 2009 at 11:36 pm

Despite the secondary playing awful this season 30-year old CB William James has been o.k.  James has played in 13 games for the Lions this season and he has made 60 tackles, defensed 12 passes and he has 2 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  Even if James doesn’t return to the Lions next season he showed that he still has something left.

Could WR/PR Dennis Northcutt be the secret weapon for the Detroit Lions tomorrow?

With Calvin Johnson either out or gimpy the Lions will need someone to step up and that could wind up being 31-year old Dennis Northcutt.  Northcutt has played in 10 games for the Lions this season and he has caught 26 passes for 226 yards (8.7 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He has also returned 2 kickoffs for 32 yards (16.0 avg) and 16 punts for 143 yards (8.9 avg) so far this season for the Lions.  Northcutt might not have great numbers this season but he has been a playmaker in the past so maybe he can turn back the clock for a game or two.

Larry Foote is playing pretty well for the Detroit Lions

29-year old veteran inside linebacker Larry Foote is playing well for the Lions this season.  In 8 games Foote has 56 tackles (leads team), 5 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and he has defensed 3 passes.  Foote is a good example for the younger players on the Lions as he plays hard all of the time.  He actually likes playing in Detroit and he wants to play for them again next season so it will be interesting to see if the Lions bring him back.

Louis Delmas not playing like a rookie for Detroit Lions

Blogged under Steppin Up, Bloglockers, Big Lions News, General by Andrew on Monday 5 October 2009 at 2:19 pm

The Detroit Lions’ rookie safety Louis Delmas has been a bright spot for the 1-3 Lions and has not looked like a rookie in his first few NFL games.  The NFL recognized the stellar play by Delmas and he was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for September.  Through four games Delmas 21 tackles (17 solo), a sack, three pass deflections, and had fumble recovery which he returned 65 yards for a touchdown.  The Lions are improving and with good young players like Delmas they will be a force to reckon with in the NFC North sooner than later.

Anthony Henry has been playing o.k. for the Detroit Lions

Blogged under Steppin Up, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by admin on Friday 2 October 2009 at 7:25 pm

Veteran CB Anthony Henry has been making some big plays for the Lions this season.  He has made 22 tackles, defensed 4 passes and he has 1 interception.  The Lions are giving up 278.7 yards passing per game and opposing QBs have a 123.7 QB Rating this season.  But, they still have to account for Anthony Henry when game planning for the Lions.
